A Children’s book about war - and why it matters
The kind of bedtime story we wish we didn’t need.
So it's another Thursday , and that means another book on the shelf. This time it's War - a book I honestly wish didn't need to exist.
But the book exists - because war exists, because war never changes. That’s exactly why there should be books like this - ones that show the horror of it all, not dress it up as something noble or heroic. This one does it right. It doesn’t preach. It lets the pictures do the talking - dark, haunting images, full of shadows, fears and even spiders. It leaves space for you to build the story yourself, or let your kid ask the questions when they’re ready.
When I read it with Alan, he goes quiet and gets serious, he listens closely. And I hope he remembers it. Because as much as I wish it weren’t true - wars aren’t going away anytime soon. They’ll end only when we do.
I’ll wrap it up today with a song - Masters of War by Bob Dylan. Yeah, it might come off a bit too intense for a dad’s blog, but hey, we don’t get to pick the times we’re handed. We just do our best with the ones we’ve got.
Be safe, dads. And whatever you do - stay the fuck away from war.
